Tutoring

Tutor assignments are made by Dr. Roberta Goodman and managed by Jennifer McKeag. Dr. Goodman will have a good sense of your student’s learning style after seeing them progress through the religious/Hebrew school. Jennifer McKeag will be in touch about schedule availability, preference for online or in person, and to coordinate.

  • As the first step in tutoring, your student may participate in a B’nei Mitzvah Boot Camp online to review prayers (unless they have a different learning plan developed with Dr. Roberta Goodman).

  • Your tutor will work directly with you to establish a mutually agreeable time for weekly sessions. Please be sure to promptly communicate any conflicts or changes directly with the tutor. Repeated rescheduling will slow your child’s progress.

  • Tutoring generally consists of 20 weekly sessions, 30 minutes each. When appropriate, additional sessions are added.

  • Tutoring generally begins about 21 weeks before the b’nei mitzvah service. The time gets pushed back further to accommodate holidays, vacations, summer camp, educational needs.

  • Please note that tutoring at summer camp is not recommended. The environment and schedule doesn’t lend itself to the dedicated study needed for new material. Tutors may choose to have an online session or two while the student is at camp in order to review material (no new material is taught while at camp). It is essential that students practice their material while at camp. Students should take their printed materials, and we can provide a recording when a device is allowed by the camp.
